Fairway Cove Residents Encouraged to Remain Vigilant Against Scams

As technology continues to evolve, so do the methods used by scammers. Fraudulent emails, text messages, phone calls, and online payment requests have become increasingly sophisticated, often appearing convincing enough to appear legitimate at first glance.

Fairway Cove residents are encouraged to remain cautious and carefully verify any unexpected communications involving requests for money, payments, account information, or urgent financial demands.

Homeowners should be aware that Fairway Cove assessments are paid quarterly, with payment information mailed directly to homeowners. Outside of these scheduled assessment obligations, Fairway Cove does not maintain a fining committee, and neither the Fairway Cove Board of Directors nor Vista Community Association Management will ever request payments through gift cards, PayPal links, cryptocurrency, wire transfers, prepaid debit cards, or similar methods.

Residents should also be cautious of anyone claiming to represent the association, management company, or board members while requesting immediate payment or confidential information.

The current members of the Fairway Cove Board of Directors are listed on the association website here: Fairway Cove Board of Directors‍ ‍

Tips for Avoiding Common Scams

Residents are encouraged to take the following precautions when reviewing emails, text messages, or online requests:

  • Verify the sender’s email address
Scammers often use display names that appear legitimate while the actual email address contains misspellings, random characters, or unrelated domains.

  • Be cautious of urgent language
Messages claiming that payment is “immediately due,” threatening penalties, or pressuring residents to act quickly should be carefully reviewed and independently verified.

  • Hover over links before clicking
On computers and many mobile devices, hovering over or long-pressing a link can reveal the true website destination. Fraudulent links often imitate legitimate websites while redirecting users elsewhere.

  • Do not provide personal or financial information through email or text
Legitimate organizations generally do not request sensitive information through unsecured communication methods.

  • Be wary of unusual payment methods
Requests involving gift cards, peer-to-peer payment apps, cryptocurrency, or wire transfers are common indicators of fraud.

  • Confirm suspicious requests directly
If a communication seems unusual, residents are encouraged to contact management directly using known phone numbers or website information rather than replying to the message itself.

  • Watch for poor grammar or formatting
While scams are becoming more polished, many fraudulent messages still contain spelling errors, awkward phrasing, or inconsistent branding. ‍ ‍

Residents who are uncertain about a communication related to Fairway Cove are encouraged to contact Vista Community Association Management directly for verification.

Remaining cautious and taking a few moments to verify communications can help protect both homeowners and the broader community from increasingly common scams and fraud attempts.
