MetroWest Installing Network of Security Cameras and License Plate Readers

In an effort to ensure the highest level of safety, MetroWest Master Association announced plans to begin implementation of a community-wide public safety camera network using Flok technology throughout the MetroWest area.

A presentation outlines plans for a network that will consist of 45-50 License Plate Recognition (LPR) cameras strategically placed throughout the community, positioned at key access points, major intersections, and other critical areas. The stated goal is to enhance public safety, support incident investigations, improve situational awareness, and provide an additional tool for law enforcement coordination when needed.

The camera network will be operated through the MetroWest Public Safety Command Center, which is a location responsible for monitoring live feeds from the LPR cameras, storing recorded footage, and coordinating responses with local law enforcement and emergency services when necessary. Trained personnel in the command center can quickly review alerts or flagged license plates, address reported incidents, and maintain situational awareness across the entire MetroWest area.

The advantage MWMA sees to this system, beyond capabilities, is its ability to provide real time access to Orlando Police Department.

The reported startup investment for 2026 is $109,150, which includes initial deployment costs for the system. Looking ahead, MetroWest anticipates ongoing operating costs beginning in 2027 of approximately $100,000. At this time there have not been any discussions regarding anticipated dues increases associated with the camera program.

Any homeowner with questions, comments, or concerns, about the program may contact MetroWest Public Safety at (407) 601-5995.
